Life is better when you surf

Shanna and Julie left for Melbourne about 5 days ago and I told them I'm update the blog while htey were gone. So, I'm not that good at it apparently. They're supposed to be coming back today and I still haven't done anything. Let me start updating:

Surf camp was a success! We're pretty much pros now. By the end of the 2 days, we could stand up, turn, shuffle forward on the board to accelerate and shuffle back to slow down. I think I'm hooked. Maybe I can stick around here forever and surf my life away. Just a thought. And we got a free t-shirt. It was pretty deadly.

Shanna and Julie left on Friday for their Melbourne adventure at a music festival. I'm sure there's a couple of blogs worth of stories there. I stayed around here and chilled out in Bondi and Sydney. One of the nights, me and Kayla took our book of free drink coupons and went around Sydney for free drinks. It was like a mini pub crawl, but it was free! I'm starting to get good at this money saving racket. Maybe I'll come home with more money than I thought! Or maybe I'll just shop a little more......

We were also supposed to go to the Blue Mountains today on a day trip. It's about 2 hours west of Sydney and there are real live kangaroos and waterfalls and an old railway and mines, etc. After going out last night, we woke up at 6am to catch a bus into town to meet up with the tour. We woke to an intense red haze covering the entire city; a dust cloud from the outback! It's kind of like fog, except its really heavy and kind of hard to breathe (although that could be from lack of sleep and too much partying...). Check it out on the local newspaper: www.smh.com.au (the Sydney Herald).

So, we got into town, after a 45 min bus ride, and they cancelled the trip. We're going tomorrow. Amy was supposed to be here this morning and she's still not here. The flight info says she landed at 9:30, although she was supposed to land at 6:15am (it's 12 now), so maybe she'll soon be here! Or maybe she's diverted to Brisbane because of the dust. It's pretty insane.

I think that's all that's happening here. When Amy gets here, we'll show her around, Kayla and I will go to blue mountain tomorrow, then head out for the New Zealand adventure on Saturday! We're all pumped and hoping things are a little less expensive there. It'll also be a little colder. But I'm not ready for that yet.

  1. G'morning Aussie surf girls!

I just read the CBC news online before checking your blog today and the red dust is one of the headlines this morning. Everything you described was in their news! Maybe they're one of your secret followers and based their article on your description! They mentionned delayed and diverted flights, cancelled ferries, poor visibility, closed mines and breathing problems leading to asthma.

So, no kangaroos today. Too bad. Maybe you'll have to surf all day? Have you seen any really amazing wildlife other than in the shark enclosure in the last blog?

When you go to New Zealand, are you coming back to Australia after, or working there for a while? I forgot to ask all the important questions before you girls left.

    Have fun and see lots.

    Hugs

  3. Don't be to hard on yourself Juilie your blogs aren't that bad I actually follow them very well but they to lack that crazy excitement that Juilie throws in hers. New Zealand, New Fucking Zealand I am so jealous I don't even want to read the next blog, it is already posted but I'm afraid it might be about how wonderfully grand NZ is and I just can't take that yet, I'm sucidal in the mornings. But girls have fun and take lots of pictures I want a little slideshow when you return...if you return. Also I will try to keep my messages as pg as possible but I can't make any promises so you might want to give any little realitives the heads up.
